General Description
The Survey Rodman position is vital in supporting the survey crew in performing field surveys by carrying and positioning rods, stakes, prisms, and other equipment needed to collect accurate measurements and site data. The Survey Rodman helps to ensure field work is completed safely, efficiently, and accurately under the direction of the Survey Party Chief or team lead. The Survey Rodman also assists with site preparation, note taking, equipment handling, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment in the field.
The Ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable, attentive to detail, eager to learn, and able to work effectively as part of a team in outdoor conditions.
Qualifications
- Provide support for the successful completion of projects under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief.
- Assist in the operation of the collection of data and provide accurate information.
- Willingness to clear brush, carry staking supplies and equipment, hammer in stakes, pack and unpack heavy survey equipment, and prepare trucks with necessary supplies.
- Record field notes, both written and electronic.
- Maintain all assigned vehicles so they are fully operable, safe, and neat in appearance.
- Learn an assortment of surveying duties and responsibilities from experienced Survey Crew Chiefs.
- Read and interpret engineering and construction plans.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Valid CA driver’s license.
- Possess the ability to work well with people and to create a self-motivating work environment.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
- Primarily indoor professional office environment.
- Occasional visits to project or construction sites.
- Mobility around an office environment including walking, bending, or kneeling.
- Ability to regularly lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds.
- Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when visiting construction sites.
